Londorosi Shira Route

This route is the longest but less crowded and provides one of the most spectacular scenic views of both Shira Plateau and Western Breach wall.

The 7-night/8-day Londorosi Route climb starts and ends in Moshi including two nights' accommodation at Keys Hotel (bed and English breakfast), 5-night/6-day Londorosi Route climb, camping fees, all food on the climb, transfers to and from the gate, guides and porters, tents, and mattresses.

Day 1: Overnight at Keys Hotel in Moshi.

Day 2: After an early breakfast, a senior guide will do your climb briefing. You will then be driven to the Londorosi Park Gate located on the western side of the mountain (approximately 3 hours) where you will meet the rest of your guides and porters. After registration, start your climb, passing through mountain forest to Forest Campsite (2,700 metres) for overnight.

Day 3: Leaving Forest Campsite, continue through the forest and up onto the Shira Plateau to reach Shira Campsite for overnight.

Day 4: Leaving Shira Campsite, the trail climbs gradually towards Kibo. Passing the Lava Tower and Western Breach, you drop down scree slopes and cross a stream. Continue along the ridge passing the Great Barranco Valley to get to Barranco Campsite (3,950 metres) for overnight.

Day 5: Crossing the floor of the Great Barranco Valley, continue up the steep climb up Barranco Wall and on to the Karanga river which is the last high altitude water point on this route. After a short rest, hike through two shallow valleys before a steep climb over rocky slabs to reach Barafu Campsite (4,600 metres) for overnight.

Day 6: Today you will be heading for the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres). You will be woken around midnight to commence the 6 hour hike to Stella Point (5,750 metres), arriving around sunrise. After a few photos at the summit, begin your steep but picturesque descent to Mweka (3,100 metres), arriving in the late afternoon for overnight.

Day 7: A 3 to 4 hour descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where the vehicle will meet you. Overnight at Keys Hotel.

Day 8: The tour ends after breakfast.
