ITINERARY IDEA

Day 1 - 7

Meal Basis: Full Board

Blessed with crystal clear turquoise waters, gorgeous powder white sand beaches and a wonderful tropical climate, the idyllic island of Mauritius is a remarkably romantic holiday destination. While most visitors spend their days relaxing in one of the many luxurious holiday resorts, there is much more to this little island than merely cocktails and coconuts. Those who venture inland will discover lush, jungle-clad mountains, glistening blue lagoons, impressive rivers and waterfalls, extinct volcanic craters, charming little ramshackle towns and villages, and some fabulously friendly locals. Must-see attractions include: the bustling capital of Port Louis with its lively local markets; the remarkable 85m high Chamarel Waterfall; and Eureka, a historical plantation mansion turned museum offering visitors a glimpse into the island's colonial past. No matter how you spend your time on this lovely little island, it is sure to fulfil all your fantasies of a tropical island paradise.

Mauritius is an ideal beach destination to relax and unwind and combines perfectly with many African Safari Destinations

ABOUT MAURITIUS

In 1505, Portuguese navigator, Don Pedro Mascarenhas, discovered the island and gave the name Mascarenes to the group of islands presently known as Mauritius, Rodrigues and Reunion. Located off the South West coast of the Indian Ocean, at approximately 230 km from Reunion Island and 860 km from Madagascar, Mauritius has a surface area of 1872 square kms with a central plateau rising at 600 metres above sea level and 330 km of coastline.

Sheltered from the open sea by the world's third largest coral reef, Mauritius offers natural, clear lagoons and pristine beaches. The exquisite levels of luxury and attention to detail throughout the resorts on the island, make this the perfect beach holiday destination for families, honeymooners and those just seeking a place to recharge.

WHERE TO GO AND WHEN

Situated in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius has a pleasantly tropical climate. The Northern and Western regions are known to be warmer and less rainy. With a culminating point of 600 metres above sea level, the climate on the Central Plateau is generally cooler. Summer (November to April) typically has temperatures between 25º and 31ºC. Winter (May to October) has temperatures that vary between 15º and 25ºC. The sea is almost always warm in temperature varying from +/- 27ºC in summer and +/- 22ºC in winter.

WHAT TO DO

First and foremost people visit Mauritius for sun, sea and sand – and this is available year round. There are a superb selection of hotels and resorts right on the beaches

Nearly all the accommodation offers water sport facilities, tennis and there are a some championship golf courses for the more active

Family friendly resorts always have kid's clubs and restaurants and menus designed for younger travellers

Further afield, yacht cruises, diving and big game fishing can be arranged by most resorts

Thank you both for booking one of the best, relaxing holidays we have ever had. The Yu-lounge staff were fabulous both on arrival and departure. What a wonderful service. I am not sure we have ever departed a country in such a hassle free, chilled way. The Royal Palm, as always, is perfect in all they do and provide. Finally, the helicopter ride was the nicest way to finish off our holiday.(Mrs K, Mauritius Holiday)
