Destination: Zambia

Day 1 - 3: South Luangwa National Park

Meal Basis: Full Board plus Activities

The properties selected in this itinerary offer year round or seasonal single supplement free accommodation.

Bordering the Luangwa River, the northern and southern Luangwa National Parks contain some of the most breathtaking and untouched wilderness in Africa. As a result of this and the parks’ successful anti-poaching campaigns, the area has developed into a world-renowned wildlife haven. The South Luangwa National Park is renowned for its walking safari, which allows visitors to view elephant, hippo and even lion close-up under the supervision of professional and knowledgeable armed guides.

Kakuli is one of the seasonal bush camps owned and operated by Norman Carr Safaris that offers some of the best game viewing and night drive safaris in Zambia and single supplement free accommodation.

There are four spacious, traditional safari tents under shady thatched roofs, each with an open-air bathroom. All of the tents overlook the river with stunning views up and down this hippo-packed stretch of the Luangwa. A lovely thatched chitenje acts as the centre of camp. It is on a wooden deck overlooking the grazing lawn that leads down to the two rivers and is a perfect spot in which to relax and watch the river and the wildlife meander by.

Day 4 - 6: Lower Zambezi

Meal Basis: Full Board plus Activities

The Lower Zambezi National Park is the newest of Zambia’s exceptional, undeveloped wildlife areas. And together with Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools Reserve the area provides a massive transfronteir wildlife sanctuary. Most activities are concentrated along the Zambezi as this is what draws the animals and aside from game drives and walking safaris the area offers canoe trips and tiger fishing.

Resting peacefully on the banks of the Zambezi River, under a grove of evergreen Mahogany trees, the multi-award winning and much acclaimed Chiawa Camp holds the prime position in the heart of Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. Constructed mainly of natural materials Chiawa Camp blends in effortlessly with its idyllic surroundings and it is here where guests receive the very best Africa has to offer. A stunning thatched lounge/bar area with an upstairs viewing deck provides one of the best views of the Zambezi.

The family owned and operated Chiawa Camp in the incredible Lower Zambezi National Park is Zambia's premier luxury safari camp and offers unusually varied activities such as game drives, walking, canoeing, boating and angling in the company of Africa's finest guides.

Day 7 - 9: Livingstone

Meal Basis: Full Board

One of the original natural wonders of the world, the Victoria Falls is a World Heritage Site and an extremely popular tourism attraction. Known locally as ‘The Smoke that Thunders’ this spectacle is accessible from both Zambia and Zimbabwe and it is an ideal place to combine game viewing and water sports. There is excellent fishing, a terrifying bungee jump and arguably the best commercial white water rafting in the world.

Waterberry Zambezi Lodge, on the banks of the Zambezi, is 30 minutes from Livingstone and 40 minutes from Victoria Falls. A small, friendly and informal lodge with just seven rooms, it's the perfect setting for visiting the amazing Falls and enjoying the wide range of activities around Livingstone.

The lodge was built 25 years ago in classic style and has seven thatched cottages set around sweeping lawns with a central restaurant, viewing lounge and deck. All rooms are en suite, with air conditioning, ceiling fans, mosquito nets and private terraces.

The real beauty of Waterberry is that it is within easy reach of Livingstone and the Falls, but well away from helicopters and microlights and the general buzz of a busy town. Guests usually spend at least one day around the Falls and the town to experience the activities there and then choose to stay at the lodge, enjoying what Waterberry has to offer - river activities (cruises, island picnics, fishing) and amazing birding with top class guides. A highlight of many visitors' stay is the village visit to a completely uncommercial local village where many of the staff live and where Waterberry has built and manages the local pre and primary schools.
